Tuffi was an Asian elephant from the Althoff Circus that jumped out of a moving suspension railway into the Wupper River in Wuppertal on 21 July 1950. He miraculously survived the jump and only suffered a few scratches on his hindquarters. Otherwise, Tuffi was unharmed. As a souvenir, the little bronze elephant Tuffi now stands in Wuppertal's pedestrian zone near the town hall and cannot be overlooked when strolling through the city. The little elephant brings a smile to the faces of children in particular, who run up to him beaming with joy to touch him.
