The life of Darmstadt's former old town is presented on three floors in the Hinkelsturm Old Town Museum. The museum is located in a former defence tower of the Darmstadt city wall. The historic building was constructed in the 14th century. It was named after a stone that was located in Hinkelgasse and can still be found in the same place today. In 1909, the city of Darmstadt bought the Hinkelsturm and placed it under a preservation order.
